Role Overview
We are looking for a BIM & Automation Director to lead the long-term direction of the BIM & Automation practice by shaping and executing the BIM & Automation roadmap. The role owns the strategic direction of BIM and Automation services at Slantis, setting the standard, growing the people, building the knowledge base, and impacting the Slantis team, our clients, and the industry as a whole through technical leadership.
This role is for a leader who inspires and builds people, systems, and culture through technical expertise.
Responsibilities
Strategy for BIM & Automation
Own service direction, offering evolution, and the long-term roadmap for BIM and Automation at Slantis.
Define and continuously elevate standards of knowledge and excellence across all workstreams.
Drive BIM &Automation adoption and distribution across all teams at slantis, this role sets the bar, not just describes it.
Knowledge Systems
Own the knowledge portal and the structure that keeps it current, useful, and accessible.
Ensure practice knowledge reaches the full Slantis team
Build the systems and habits that make knowledge sharing the default, not the exception.
Applied Research
Curate and validate innovations emerging from project work and the broader AEC technology space.
Formalize validated approaches into practice standards and reusable delivery assets.
Scale and propagate what works
Leadership & Talent Development
Own onboarding content, development paths, and role definitions for the practice.
Reduce ramp-up time through structured onboarding, mentoring, and training systems integrated with live project work.
Coach Technical Leads and Technical Directors across technical, strategic, and professional dimensions.
Build leaders who can operate autonomously.
Positioning & Authority Building
Builds a trusted voice (and team!) wide and Industry wide
Owns practice-aligned marketing content (in partnership with Marketing).
Build client relationships through technical authority (outcome: trust and deeper engagements and evolution partnerships)
Participate in early-stage client meetings, pre-sales, and solution shaping for technically complex engagements.
Build community and professional network within the AEC technology space (internally and industry-wide)
Represent Slantis externally through events, publications, and industry conversations, turning visibility into authority.
Partner with Marketing to develop practice-aligned content that positions Slantis as a technical thought leader.
Delivery Enablement
Align practice capabilities with strategic direction so the people executing the work are never operating without the right tools, knowledge, or technical backing.
Enable business units to elevate execution by bringing deep technical expertise directly to the teams that need it, when they need it.
Turn recurring technical problems into reusable solutions — so troubleshooting builds the practice, not just fixes the project.
Contribute to growing client partnerships through strategic farming — deepening relationships and identifying opportunities from within ongoing engagements.
Competencies & Skills
AEC background (required) Direct experience in architecture, engineering, or AEC technology consulting. Understands how design firms work from the inside.
Experience (required) 10+ years across BIM, digital delivery, or technical leadership roles. Track record of leading practices or teams, not just doing the work.
Technical depth (required) Deep fluency in BIM workflows, parametric design, and automation tooling — Revit, Dynamo, Grasshopper, APIs, and adjacent ecosystems.
Leadership (required) Proven ability to develop autonomous leaders. Comfortable giving hard feedback, setting expectations, and coaching across levels in professional services or consulting environments.
Systems thinking (required) Builds repeatable systems, not one-off solutions. Designs for scale and sustainability from the start. Has done this in fast-growing environments.
Communication (required) English C1+. Can move between a whiteboard with an engineer and a strategic conversation with a client principal without losing clarity.
Market presence (required) Active in the AEC technology community, or ready and credible enough to become a visible voice within it.
Computational design (preferred) Fluent in computational design ecosystems and adjacent tooling beyond the core BIM stack.
Distributed teams (preferred) Experience working across studios, countries, or time zones. Comfortable operating in a multi-country delivery model.
